Crimson Hail and the Secrets of Valour — Chapter 3 : A day in the life
Crimson’s place of work wasn’t far from where he lived, only two stops from Tenshin, but getting to the station would take some time. Not wanting to be late he decided to jog to work. It wasn’t unusual for him to be late; he often had an excuse whenever he was. ‘A samurai robot attacked a tourist and I had to call the ambulance’. ‘Somebody threw up on the train and it didn’t move until the mess was all cleaned up’. His favourite was, ‘They were shooting a film in the Park, and the crowd was so large it took me half an hour to get through them’. Alas, he had no excuse this time. Everyone knew when he got back from holiday so if he did make something up, it would be difficult for them to believe him.
As he jogged to work the array of lights on buildings and drones above made Tenshin look almost magical, although something felt different this time. He felt a bit lighter than usual. The warm air brushed his cheeks as he moved, and his neck felt unusually freer. Then it hit him. His scarf! He completely forgot to take it.
It felt like he had left a piece of himself back at home. Standing a stone’s throw away from the station with hands on knees and head towards the ground he began to consider the possibility of running back to pick it up. He would get there much later, but he would feel more comfortable…
