Crimson sat on the floor, completely fixated on Marx as she ate grey goo from a bowl. He had never seen anyone eat so fast before.

‘D’you have any more of this stuff?’ she said after swallowing her final spoonful.

‘That’s your second helping. How are you so hungry?’ Crimson said, taking her empty bowl away.

‘It’s really good. What is it?’

‘Posca!’ shouted Ronan, as he came in with another full bowl and handed it to her. ‘We found a bag of it in the cupboard.’ Nisbah’s swollen eyelids revealed that she had been crying for a while, but at the sight of Marx coming back to life her cries stopped, and she found the energy to explain everything since the train crash.

‘So, this work we’ve gotta do tomorrow, does anyone know what it is?’

‘Nope, but after what they’ve put us through today I’m sure it’s not anything pleasant,’ Nisbah answered.

‘I have a feeling we were fed a bunch of lies,’ Crimson added. ‘I mean–there’s no way people here can actually fly? Or teleport?’

‘I don’t know. Dorcas seemed quite serious when she said it,’ Nisbah replied.

‘Okay, you had me for a minute but, I think it’s time to stop lying,’ Marx interrupted. ‘Crimson, did you organise this?’

Everyone gave her stern looks. ‘Marx, I wish this were a joke but it’s serious. If only you saw what…
