Product company vs agency. How to decide where to work as a developer?
I’ve been working at an agency (consultancy) for almost two years now, before that I had only worked at product companies. There are advantages and disadvantages to working at either of these sorts of companies which I’m going to outline in this article.
Who is this for?
This article is for the person who’s looking to get their first job in web development, has offers from both these sorts of companies and wants to know which one to choose.
I know it’s super difficult to land a job as a developer if it is your first one so chances are, you’ll take whatever you can get. However, if you’re the lucky candidate who has offers flying at you faster than you can catch them, then this post is for you.
Also, please bear in mind this is based on my experiences working at both these kinds of companies. You may speak to someone else who might have different opinions which is fine. I’m not an expert in this area I’m just sharing my experiences to help other developers.
